Personal injury questions
General answers to common questions. Your situation may differ, so call if you want to talk it through. The consultation is free.
How much does it cost to hire a personal injury attorney?
Personal injury cases are generally handled on a contingency fee, which means the fee is a percentage of the recovery and is owed only if there is one. Ohio requires contingent fee agreements to be in writing. Ask about case expenses when you call.
How long do I have to file?
For most bodily-injury claims, generally two years from the date of injury. Wrongful death claims also have a short deadline. Claims against government entities can have special requirements. Call early.
What if I was partly at fault?
Ohio uses a comparative-fault rule. Generally, your recovery is reduced by your share of fault, and you cannot recover if you are more than 50% at fault.
Should I talk to the other driver’s insurance company?
Be careful. Their job is to limit what the company pays. Talk to an attorney before giving a recorded statement or signing a release.
What is my case worth?
It depends on the injuries, the medical bills and lost income, who was at fault, and the available insurance. No one can honestly tell you a number before reviewing the facts.
I was hurt at work. Can I bring an injury claim?
Usually your claim against your employer is through workers’ compensation. If someone else caused the injury, you may also have a separate claim against that party. Call to talk it through.
Not sure whether you have a claim? A short call can tell you. It is free and there is no obligation.
